FR Dans la prolongation d'un travail plus ancien sur les Vanités, et en développant l'idée de son exposition lors de l'ouverture de l'espace 10/12, Luis Alvarez nous propose aujourd'hui "I am the fly"
"I am the fly" est une installation de plus d'un millier de portraits miniatures découpés en forme de mouche en taille réelle.
Visages échappés d’un amas de photographies du siècle passé, qu’on imagine s’enfuyant en nuées.
Visages anonymes et défunts, nous fixant à travers le temps, posés sur le mur blanc.
Cette Vanité moderne, cet essaim de visages qu’on ne distingue qu'en s’approchant, nous rappelle que la vie n'a pas plus de poids qu'une mouche…
NL Bij de opening van 10/12 stelde Luis Alvarez werk voor dat hij nu verder ontwikkelt onder de titel “I am the fly”. De installatie ligt eveneens in het verlengde van zijn vroeger werk rond ‘Vanitas’.
“I am the fly” is opgebouwd uit meer dan duizend miniatuurportretten, alle uitgeknipt in de vorm van een vlieg, op ware grootte.
De gezichten lijken ontsnapt uit een ware zwerm beelden uit het verleden, een berg foto’s uit de vorige eeuw.
Gezichten van anonieme overledenen, die ons aanstaren vanuit een vervlogen tijd.
Die zwerm beelden, aangebracht op een witte muur, en die pas duidelijk gezichten blijken te zijn als men er dicht genoeg naar kijkt vormen een moderne Vanitas die er ons aan herinnert dat het leven niet meer gewicht heeft dan een vlieg…
EN As an extension of an earlier study of Vanitas, and developing the idea of his exhibition at the opening of the 10/12 space, Luis Alvarez is proposing today "I am the fly"
"I am the fly" is an installation of over a thousand miniature portraits carved in the life-size shape of a fly.
Faces escaping from a scattered pile of photographs of the past century that seem to vanish like steam. Anonymous faces of the departed, staring at us through time, hung on a white wall.
This modern Vanitas, this swarm of faces that we distinguish only by approaching, reminds us that life has no more weight than a fly ...

Alice De Visscher vit et travaille à Bruxelles. Issue du théâtre, elle a quitté la narration pour explorer les relations physiques et visuelles entre son corps, les objets et l'espace, d'abord en vidéo puis en performance. Elle a présenté son travail en Belgique ainsi qu'à l'étranger . Après "TROIS" l'année passée, 10/12 l'accueille à nouveau pour une performance en solo.
Alice De Visscher lives and works in Brussels. Coming from theatre, she has left narrative to explore the physical and visual relationships between her body, objects and space, first on video and then in performance. She has exhibited in Belgium and abroad. After TROIS (THREE) last year, 10/12 welcomes her again for this solo performance.
